HISTORY:

"Het Lissabon" is a small courtyard connecting Denneweg, Kazernestraat, and Nieuwe Schoolstraat in The Hague. It was built by master carpenter Arnoldus Theodorus Zodaer. The street name has been in use since 1806, but the houses date back to around 1770 when the Denneweg canal was filled in. Before adopting the name "Het Lissabon," it was known as "Hofje Denneweg." Het Lissabon is a protected urban area in The Hague's city center.

Today, "Het Lissabon" is a small, continuous street. At the end, there is a passage to Nieuwe Schoolstraat on the right, and on the left, there is Lissabonplein, which connects Het Lissabon to Kazernestraat. Lissabonplein is home to workshops including a goldsmith, leatherworker, furniture maker, and recorder maker. The old courtyard still has a few original houses, each with a small garden at the back. The area was named after the Portuguese Jews who lived nearby.
